Why my Website isn’t showing up on Google
Have you ever Google your own business or website and feel frustrated when it's nowhere to be found? You're definitely not alone. It's a super common issue, and the reasons can range from simple oversights to technical snags.
In this article, I will go through the most common reasons why a page is not showing up in Google and what you can do about it.
Just remember that these things require some expertise to succeed, and also that SEO is an ongoing process – not a one-time fix! Repair requires expertise in, for example, content production, search engine optimization, using Search Console, etc.
1. It's not Indexed
Google hasn’t added your site to its index, which is especially common for new websites.
Solution: The first thing to do is check Google Search Console. If your site isn’t indexed, you can manually submit the URL for Google to crawl.
2. A technical tag Is blocking It
Your site might have a noindex tag or a robots.txt file that’s telling search engines to stay away.
Solution: Check your site’s robots.txt to make sure there are no rules blocking crawlers. You’ll also want to remove any noindex tags from pages you want to show up in search results.
3. Your content isn't SEO-friendly
Google prefers high-quality, unique content that’s actually useful to people – not copied text.
Solution: Create content that directly answers user questions. Use keywords naturally, but avoid cramming them in. The best way to find the right keywords is to research your competitors, use tools like Google’s own Keyword Planner, and think about the words your target audience would use.
4. There Are Technical Issues
A slow-loading site, broken links, or a lack of mobile friendliness can all hinder your search engine rankings.
Solution: Optimize your images by making them small (around 200 KB) and saving them in a web-friendly format like WebP.
Make sure your site is responsive on all devices and fix any broken links.
5. You lack backlinks
Without links from other trustworthy websites, Google won’t see your site as an authority.
SolutionBuild natural backlinks through guest posts, social media visibility, and collaborations.
6. You Got a Google Penalty
If you’ve used unethical SEO tactics, Google may have penalized your site and removed it from search results.
Solution: The only reliable long-term solution is to focus on ethical, consistent, and trustworthy SEO practices.
Summary
Use this checklist for every page you publish to make sure your content is ready for search engines.
- Keywords: Choose a primary keyword and include it in your H1 heading, first paragraph, and meta description. Use 2-4 secondary keywords naturally throughout the text.
- Structure: Use only one H1 heading per page. Organize your content with H2 and H3 subheadings, and include keywords in them where it makes sense.
- Content: Aim for at least 800-1000 words. Make sure your content directly answers the user’s question and is easy to read with lists and short paragraphs. Add both internal and external links.
- Technical SEO: Write a compelling meta description and add alt text with keywords to all your images. Make sure your site loads fast and is mobile-friendly.
- After Publishing: Add the page to Google Search Console and submit a request for indexing. Share your article on social media and monitor your traffic with Google Analytics. Update your content regularly.
